Appointing Executives to the region’s most established brands
Over the last four years, we have appointed over 90 Directors to the Boardrooms of some of the region’s most established brands.
We are proud to have supported some of the region’s best-loved brands and growing businesses and here are a sample of successful appointments:
Non- Executive Directors
Treatt is an international manufacturer of flavours and fragrances, headquartered in Bury St Edmunds, selling to over 90 countries worldwide. They are listed on the London Stock Exchange and have experienced tremendous growth over the past 5 years with market capitalisation, growing from £30 million to over £300 million.
Pure Executive managed the search for a Non-Executive Director, following the retirement of a long-standing Board member. We were seeking a combination of:
- international experience
- values-driven approach to fit their strong people culture
- diversity as they were losing their one female Board member
- HR/ business transformation and/or sales and marketing expertise
Our executive recruitment consultants approached a varied range of fascinating, experienced and highly credible candidates. Working closely with the Chairman, we agreed on a short list of four exceptional candidates who met the Board.
The final two candidates were so good that, collectively, the Board decided to appoint both, and firmly strengthen the group to achieve their future plans. Yetunde Hoffman and Lynne Weedal join the Treatt Board in March and April 2019 respectively.
Tim Jones, Chairman commented, “We were delighted to have the support of Lynn and the team at Pure Executive who have delivered such outstanding candidates.”
Chief Operating Officer
One of Cambridge’s treasures with a heritage dating over 180 years, Bidwells are one of the UK’s leading property consultancies with much of their work focused on the ‘golden triangle’ between Cambridge, Oxford and London. Following a lifestyle relocation of their long-serving HR Director, Bidwells wanted to recruit a Chief Operating Officer, to work closely with the Managing Partner and Chief Financial Officer to grow the partnership.
A combination of search, referrals and advertised selection, enabled us to deliver a diverse shortlist of candidates who were thoroughly assessed through a combination of interviews, presentations and a panel discussion with eight partners. Two excellent and very different candidates were hotly debated at the last stage, resulting in them appointing Catherine Spitzer. Catherine has helped them develop their strategy to focus on the golden triangle and reinvent their employee proposition that started the redevelopment of their head office site and doubling their profits.
We work closely with Catherine and her team, recruiting more than 30 professional roles over the last 3 years. Catherine said, ‘I found Pure Executive to stand out from the rest. Communication was exceptional. I always knew where I was in the process."

Pure Executive was appointed to manage the search for a new Joint CEO of Marketing and Membership.
We were seeking a combination of:
- A collegiate, inclusive leadership style with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
- Depth of strategic marketing experience gained within a multi-faceted employer
- Experience of a membership organisation, or a brand with a strong loyalty scheme
- A ‘digital first’ marketing approach, with advanced CRM skills to drive customer engagement, insight and loyalty.
- Empathy and alignment to the values and principles of the Co-operative
We completed a branded national campaign that involved online advertising, referrals and a search. These combined methods attracted individuals from high profile UK and overseas retail and membership backgrounds. The final shortlist included a great combination of experience, diversity and cultural fit to help drive the continued growth of the organisation and the communities it serves.

Established in 2006, Lintbells are a privately owned company make premium quality pet supplements with a recognisable brand selling products both online and throughout many of the main retail outlets. A Sunday Times Fast Track 100 business in both 2017 and 2018, recognition for their achievements was gaining national attention.
The two founders had ambition for continued growth, both domestically and overseas. Pure Executive was engaged to find a Chief Financial Officer who can secure the appropriate investment to deliver their strategic vision.
We were seeking a combination of:
- Track record of successful M&A
- Experience of growing companies internationally
- EBIT focused, yet aligned to their values-led culture

They continue on their path to becoming an internationally recognised brand and a leading provider of continuously evolving pet supplement products.
Global Chair Components
CEO, CFO and NED
Established in 1996, Global Chair Components Ltd is a major supplier of components to the office furniture industry. Based in Suffolk they source products from international manufacturers and are highly successful, leading suppliers to the UK office and leisure markets. Following a recommendation from a professional advisor, Pure Executive worked closely with the founder to recruit their first CFO, helping the founder to achieve a phased exit. We worked in close partnership with the founder through every stage of the search, advising on the design of the new organisation as well as supporting the interview process. Ed Yeldham joined the Board as CFO and has been instrumental in the businesses continued success.
Subsequently, we supported the client further with succession planning as he transitioned into a Chairman role, leading to the appointment of Ian Watson as NED and Justin Adams as CEO who both joined in 2018. The team at Pure continue to work closely with Global supporting them as they strengthen their professional office roles.
Digital and Marketing Director
This family-owned, 120-year-old retail business, specialising in gardens and homes, employs over across their national network of 21 garden centres. With a turnover of £75m, the business is headquartered in Woodbridge, Suffolk and is currently delivering a programme of transformation change to reposition the brand and drive profitable growth. Pure Executive was selected to manage the search for a new Digital and Marketing Director who would develop and deliver first class omnichannel marketing, driving a ‘digital first’ communication culture and enhanced engagement with customers.

These combined methods attracted individuals from high profile UK retail, leisure and consumer brand backgrounds. The final shortlist provided Notcutts with a choice of candidates with combined strategic and operational digital and CRM leadership skills, diversity of thinking and an appreciation of working in an ambitious family owned business.
Mr Fothergill’s Seeds is a family run business with a UK annual turnover of circa £20 million, a subsidiary company in Australia and an employee base of 120 staff. Established in 1978, it has grown to become one of the most successful seed companies in the UK. After a highly successful ten years at the helm, the Finance Director’s resignation would undoubtedly have an impact on the business if a suitable successor wasn’t found quickly enough to offer a handover period.
Pure Executive facilitated a thorough briefing session to understand the business’ priorities and to identify the key skills needed in their new Finance Director. We challenged the natural tendency to want to hire the safe pair of hands and reasoned that a Financial Controller with high aspirations might offer new ideas and energy. The final shortlist offered a broad range of applicants ranging in experience but all closely aligned to the cultural values of the business. We advised the recruitment process should include a presentation to allow candidates to appraise the financial and commercial priorities of the business. This gave great insights from which the joint Managing Directors were able to satisfy their concerns that an inexperienced Finance Director offered the right solution. Phil Hurst took on the role as his first Board appointment and has since proven his capability. Since joining Phil has played his part in improving productivity, increasing financial awareness and disciplines throughout the business and helping to develop the senior management team.
Domino Printing Sciences
Group HR Director
Domino has a global reputation for manufacturing high-quality coding and printing technologies. They employ over 2700 people and operate in over 120 countries worldwide with manufacturing facilities in the UK, China, Germany, India, Sweden and USA. In 2015, Domino became an autonomous division of Brother Industries Limited, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Pure Executive supported Domino through their transition from a UK listed Plc to becoming a subsidiary of Brother plc and worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Board to recruit a new Group HR Director.
Completing a global search, Pure Executive focussed on attracting a commercially minded Group HR Director that had led through significant change within a complex multi-national product company. Hillary Wright joined the Board and has played a key role in the growth and transition of the organisation.
RG Carter Group is a privately owned, highly respected construction business and one of the region’s best-known brands. It has traded successfully since its inception in 1921 with headquarters situated in Drayton, Norwich. The current Group Finance Director was trusted by the family for many years. Pure Executive was appointed to recruit a Finance Director for the largest trading division with the potential to succeed the Group FD who was starting to plan for retirement.
We were seeking a combination of:
- Construction industry experience
- Proven track record of leadership and developing teams
- Experience and effectiveness within the Boardroom
- Ability to drive commercial growth whilst maintaining strong governance
- Values aligned to a family business, strong integrity and ability to drive through change
Capitalising on RG Carter’s strong brand, Pure developed a branded advertising campaign alongside search to identify construction Finance Directors on a local and national level. The Board, including family members, were heavily involved in the recruitment and through regular communication we delivered a short-list of highly qualified candidates. Whilst the short-list represented candidates from all over the UK, it was Emily Vinters who was successfully appointed and she has now taken on the role as Group CFO.
